So the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles denied Troy Davis clemency this morning.
This despite the fact that:
- There is no physical evidence linking Troy Davis to the murder.
- Seven of the nine non-police officer witnesses have taken back their testimony against Davis, many of whom claim to have been pressured into providing damaging testimony against Davis by police officers eager for a conviction.
- No murder weapon was found.
It is infuriating and sad and disappointing that our criminal justice system can’t seem to correct such an obviously flagrant miscarriage of justice. It really says something about how broken that system is that this much doubt isn’t enough to free Troy Davis.
The death penalty is barbaric and antiquated. In all likelihood, the state of Georgia will execute a potentially innocent man. There is no justice in that.

UPDATE: The state of Georgia executed Troy Anthony Davis on September 21. It was a tragedy, a travesty, and a sad day for the United States.
