Watch: The ‘History of Voting’ (and the Fight to Expand, Not Restrict, Access to the Ballot)

Rock the Vote has put together a great video featuring Perez Hilton, John Legend, Darren Criss, and Bridget Kelly that gives viewers a quick take on the long march to extend voting rights in the United States from White male property owners to nearly all citizens. Check it out and be sure to register and make your vote count in 2012.

As this video warns, your right to vote is not something all people in power want you to freely exercise. Voter suppression is real and continues today. With many states enacting restrictive voting laws, such as requiring a government-issued photo ID, it is more important than ever to register early and take steps to ensure you are ready to vote on Election Day. Go to Election Protection’s website — www.866ourvote.org –  to learn more about voting law changes in your state and what you can do to protect your right to vote.
